Forest

Forest

South Bruny Island is hilly, heavily timbered and includes large rainforest areas. It is home to the South Bruny National Park and large areas of State Forest Reserve. The townships of Adventure Bay, Alonnah and Lunawanna are also located on South Bruny. A number of tourist attractions are also located here, including the famous Cape Bruny Lighthouse.

Beach

Bruny Island is famous for its surf. The waves are great & the water is clean. The waters on the southern side of the Island offer peaked rolling waves that bring with them a little of the southern ocean chill from the Antarctic.

Cloudy Bay, Coal Point and The Neck beach all offer some of Tasmania's best surf, every year hosting the 'Bruny Island Surf Classic' - one of only four state championship competitions.

Wildlife

Wildlife

Bruny Island is home to a range of wildlife such as the short-beaked echidna (Tachyglossus aculeatus), which are commonly found in Tasmania. Echidnas live in caves, burrows and under vegetation. They have no fixed home and roam around.

Bruny Island is also a birdwatchers dream, with the largest population of endangered forty-spotted pardalotes in the world, plus the swift parrot, short-tailed shearwater, penguins and other amazing endemic bird species.
